As Social Media Manager, Roddy’s responsible for social media and content strategy, working across consumer brands such as Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, Metamark and most recently, Cocoa Cabana as part of the Together. We’re Able initiative. He’s a dab hand at executing campaigns – read on to find out his top tips.

What do you enjoy the most about your role?

I’d have to say the thing I enjoy the most about my role is working with such a diverse range of clients, as well as working with an incredibly talented team.

Your team has recently scooped up Prolific North’s Content Team of the Year Award. What’s your top tip for executing a social media campaign?

CHAAMPIOOOOONS! My top tip for executing a killer social media campaign is to do your research before you get started. Identifying your key audiences, content types and platforms early on is key for making sure a campaign runs efficiently and delivers results.

Where do you look for inspiration?

Most of my inspiration for content comes from scrolling through feeds. As a team we regularly share great social posts, ads and stories that we find and look at ways we can incorporate similar ideas into our content.

Which platforms do you use to keep on top of industry trends?

I probably spend far too much of my time on it but most of my industry news and trends come from Twitter. You’ll find loads of discussion around new release features and platform changes, as well as plenty of people with key industry insights.

What’s the first thing you do when you get to your desk?

I usually rant to the team about something from my commute or tell an inane story about what I watched on Netflix last night. After that, coffee, emails and on with the day!

What’s your go-to productivity trick?

Break down big projects into bite-size chunks and don’t be afraid to procrastinate a little bit. Working on big projects can often be daunting but breaking it down into smaller manageable tasks helps to balance your workload. Taking breaks to work on other things really helps to keep you feeling fresh and avoid burnout.

Where’s your favourite Manchester spot?

An incredibly difficult choice but my favourite spot right now has to be Almost Famous. You can’t really go wrong when the burgers are the size of your head!

When was the last time you laughed so hard that you cried?

I recorded my dog eating a piece of ham in slow motion. Kept me entertained for hours!

Summarise your Instagram feed in one sentence.

Food, travel and my dog, Polo.

Which Netflix series are you currently hooked on?

The American Barbecue Showdown… it makes The Great British Bake Off look like a walk in the park!
