A brew with Roddy Burns: expert in web clicks and Netflix
Cat’s our Account Director and has been with the team for over 3 years. Responsible for supporting growth across a wide range of consumer brands, her skills and sector knowledge are invaluable. Read on to find out more about Cat.
How did you get to where you are today?
I found myself in account management through natural progression. I was a qualified graphic designer in a small company back in 2005 which I really enjoyed but I’ve always liked to be customer facing and interacting with people – you could say that I love to chat (and everyone in the office would agree!) and so I became more involved with the day to day running of the business and it evolved from there. I’ve got a varied background – graphic designer to cabin crew to account management but it’s all been customer focused which I really enjoy. I’ve been with Shoot the Moon 3 years and can’t believe how quickly time has passed. It only feels like yesterday when I joined! I’m responsible for a variety of brands and clients which makes every day different and interesting.
What’s the secret to running a successful project from start to finish?
Patience, organisation and accuracy. A project will never be exactly what was originally briefed and always changes throughout so being patient is key but being aware of the details is vital to ensure the smooth running. My role is to ensure the client is updated and their project is completed on time and within budget (which isn’t always an easy task) but being organised is critical and having a reliable team makes it all that easier to achieve our goal and that ends with happy clients.
What’s the first thing you do when you get to your desk?
Have a cup of tea and check my emails. I can’t function without a brew. Sometimes I have one waiting on my desk but that’s when a busy day is looming!
Best advice you’ve ever received?
Follow your gut instinct which I’ve done on a few occasions and it’s never let me down. I always think things through, but my gut feeling always wins and helps point me in the right direction.
Favourite takeaway?
Ooooh that’s a tough one… I like Thai or Vietnamese, but I love Sushi. I could eat Sushi all day long, but I’m terrible at making it myself, so I’m happy to leave it to the experts.
Which Netflix series are you currently hooked on?
I’ve just started watching The Crown and it’s very good. I heard so many things about it and a new season is coming so I thought I should catch up so I’m not left behind. I’m hooked on crime documentaries and seem to have watched every one that’s been released but it’s not good when you suspect the delivery driver could be some crazed serial killer and insist he shows ID before you open the door… I blame Netflix for this!
What’s your go-to productivity trick?
Having plenty of tea – it keeps me going.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Prosecco, I can drink it like water (so I’ve been told on a few occasions!) and it just makes everything so much better… and that’s not the alcoholic content I’m sure.
Dream brand to work with?
Chanel. I love the brand. It has that classic and sophisticated allure even after so many years. It manages to stay current and appeals to a wide market. It would be fabulous to work with such a prestigious brand.
Where do you look for inspiration?
Everywhere and anywhere, sounds cliché but you can always find inspiration without even knowing it.
